VIDEO: Toilography visits Trinity Loop, an abandoned amusement park in Newfoundland

In 2019 I did a road trip through Newfoundland, starting at St. John’s and working my way up to Fogo Island. I stopped for a night at the small town of Trinity, where I explored Trinity Loop, a nearby abandoned amusement park. Plenty of dilapidated dunnies to see here, among many other interesting artifacts and acts of vandalism.

It took me a while to edit this! I have some more footage from Newfoundland to put together hopefully one day soon including some pretty incredible outhouses.

Below are a few photos from around the park:

VIDEO: Toilography visits three abandoned Ontario motels

I’ve explored quite a few abandoned sites over my years of toilet hunting. Here’s a compilation of three once-loved motels across Ontario I’ve had the pleasure of spending time in, featuring dilapidated accommodations at Still River, Kingston/Gananoque and White River.

World Toilet Day 2019: Toilography visits Suzhou, China

Happy World Toilet Day everyone! Earlier in the year I visited Suzhou, China’s 16th most populated city. I spent some time wandering around its charming alleyways and chanced upon some very interesting latrines which weren’t exactly the pinnacle of cleanliness.

Hopefully this video helps highlight in a small way just how different sanitary conditions can be in developing countries compared to the relative luxury faced in the western world. There’s also a little shoutout to the World Toilet Organization at the end of the video who do a wonderful job at spreading the word on the global sanitation crisis. Please learn about and support them in any way you can!

VIDEO: Toilography visits Shanghai

Here’s the video from my visit to China earlier in the year featuring all the cool toilets I saw while in Shanghai! You’ll see a bit of everything from a double-storey public toilet, to the view from one of the highest restrooms in the world, to a toilet art exhibit which includes some very naughty words. I hope you enjoy it – please like & share if you do.

And stay tuned for World Toilet Day on November 19th cause I’ll be posting my video from Suzhou, also in China, where I saw some of the least-sanitary lavatories I’ve ever come across… it’s a real eye-opener.

VIDEO: Toilography visits Cégep de Saint-Laurent

I paid a visit to the Cégep de Saint-Laurent, a technical college in Montreal which has some of the best graffitied toilets in all of Canada. There’s 30-40 years worth of graffiti built up on these washroom walls.

It wasn’t my first time here – I’d previously been in 2015 (check out the blog post I made about it back then), but I simply had to go back to get some more pics & video of this incredible restroom.

Mr Toilet: The World’s #2 Man

Dan from Toilography got the chance to chat to Jack Sim – global sanitation crusader and founder of the World Toilet Organization & the United Nations-recognized World Toilet Day!

He was in town with director Lily Zepeda for the premiere of the film, Mr Toilet: The World’s #2 Man at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, which details his dedication to the loo:

“To a stranger, he’s a guy obsessed with toilets, but to those who know him, he’s “Mr. Toilet,” a crusader in global sanitation. Born in the Singapore slums, Jack Sim knows firsthand the agonies of not having a proper loo. Now, he’s dedicating his life to a crisis no one dares talk about: Shit. Using humor as his main weapon, he plunges into his biggest challenge yet when he is asked to secure 6 million toilets for the “Clean India” initiative. But with few resources and no help from the government, his epic project and reputation are in jeopardy.”

Also make sure you catch the end of the chat to hear Jack’s hilarious poop joke! Thanks so much Jack and Lily for your time and wishing you the best of success with the film.

VIDEO: Toilography visits Cricketers Arms & Midnight Special in Sydney

Dan from Toilography dropped by Cricketers Arms and The Midnight Special in Sydney to see two of the cities coolest graffitied washrooms!

The toilets next to the rowdy beer garden at Cricketers Arms, Surry Hills, were truly a sight to behold:

In the middle of Sydney’s Newtown is the Midnight Special, a lively & fun neighbourhood bar with an emphasis on good food, drink and live blues/rock music. Named after the 1934 Lead Belly tune, the restrooms here are just as rock ‘n’ roll as the song:

VIDEO: Toilography visits Potsdam, NY

Dan from Toilography travelled to Potsdam in upstate New York to see Hank Robar’s famous Potty Gardens!

With a population of around 17,000, this quaint university town in upstate NY is also populated by hundreds of colourful loos. Check out the video to find out about the reason they’re there.

And Happy World Toilet Day! This video was released on 19th November 2018 – the annual United Nations observation that raises awareness of the global sanitation crisis. There are billions of people out there who don’t have access to sanitary facilities. My Potsdam adventure is very light-hearted but please take some time today to think about those less fortunate and donate to a worthy cause if you can.

Just look at these works of art! –

VIDEO: Toilography visits Embassy Bar

Dan from Toilography went to Embassy Bar in Toronto’s Kensington Market, a bohemian area renowned for its street art. The words of wisdom graffitied onto these washroom walls certainly didn’t disappoint.

VIDEO: Toilography visits Ravenswood

Dan from Toilography went to Ravenswood, North Queensland, and saw a classic Aussie thunderbox outside an historic miner’s site. Take a tour of the town’s attractions, pubs & toilets, and you’ll even get to meet Woodie, a true Aussie character!
