Composting toilet at MEC
Posted: May 21, 2018 Filed under: Canadian Toilets, Composting Toilets, Manitoba, Toilets at Shops Leave a commentIt might not be the most interesting loo to look at, but it’s a pretty cool concept. MEC in downtown Winnipeg has a composting toilet on their second floor, the contents of which is collected in the floor below and used as fertilizer.
I’ve since found out MEC has a Green Buildings initiative, of which the Winnipeg outlet was the first retail building in the country to comply with a national standard of reducing energy consumption by 50%. The composting toilet is of course part of this initiative. Good stuff!!

The toilet fixtures themselves were modern but the room in general had a wonderful early 20th century feel to it. I wonder how much of the room is still original to its 1926 opening?
Curiosa
Posted: February 17, 2018 Filed under: Canadian Toilets, Chalk Boards, Toilets at Shops, Toronto, ON Leave a commentI stumbled upon this lovely little gift shop today called Curiosa, in Toronto Queen West district, which sold all kinds of trinkets from games to books to cards to Harry Potter merchandise.
Stepping into the commode I found a sign on the wall with a little jar of chalk next to it, saying:
Please leave a message on the walls or ceiling! Your choice…
Amid the dozens of Harry Potter quotes, this turned out to be a very wholesome washroom wall 🙂

Of course it’s happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean it’s not real?
